Silverman Designs Winning Logo
New Haven: The new West Coast Hockey League logo, designed by the Silverman Group of New Haven, was voted the best logo in professional hockey. Sponsor of the third annual logo contest for 1999 was In the Crease, an Internet hockey site (www.inthecrease.com), which receives approximately four million hits per month. More than 350,000 hockey fans took part in the contest, in which the WCHL logo beat out both the NHL and the WPHL logos.
Blumenthal Targets Misleading Ads
Hartford: Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has announced the release of a report alleging deception by for-profit companies using the names and logos of nonprofit organizations to promote products. Blumenthal and other attorneys general are concerned about the growing trend in the marketplace of nonprofit organizations entering into alliances with commercial sponsors and selling the use of its well-known name and logo for use in advertising campaigns. This practice is especially prevalent between nonprofit health organizations and the pharmaceutical industry. The preliminary report, drafted and issued by 17 states, outlines consumer laws and provides guidelines so that advertising using nonprofit names and logos to promote commercial products is truthful and fair.
Subway Menus Now in Braille
Milford: Subway restaurants in communities across the U.S. recently introduced takeout menus available in Braille. The Braille menus include the core items available at the restaurant and makes Subway one of only a handful of fast-food restaurant chains to offer Braille or large print menus for customers. Subway should be commended for Brailling their menus. It is just good business to make your products accessible to all members of the community, said Carl R. Agusto, president of the American Foundation for the Blind.
Attention Yankees Fans
New Haven: New Haven's WBNE-TV is continuing as Connecticut's television home of the New York Yankees. WBNE, in conjunction with flagship WNYW-TV, will broadcast 50 New York Yankees baseball games this season, having begun with the first game April 5. Visual Concepts Receives Telly Awards
Bloomfield: Visual Concepts has been named a winner of two 1999 Telly Awards, a national competition of the non-broadcast video and film industry. Visual Concepts was honored in the outstanding sales program category for a production entitled LEGO Mindstorms, produced for LEGO Systems Inc. of Enfield. Visual Concepts also received top honors in the Outstanding Employee Communications category for a program celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Pilot Pen Corp. of Tokyo, Japan. Selections were made by a panel of industry judges from among nearly 11,000 entries nationwide.

Stamford: Innovative KIDS, a new publisher of interactive, tactile books for preschool through elementary school-age children, has concluded an exclusive U.S. distribution agreement with Chronicle Books. Innovative KIDS is the new publishing division of Innovative USA Inc., a full-service company specializing in products for the children's trade and educational markets. Woodbridge:Lone Wolf Advertising of Woodbridge and Wolf Pack Inc., a direct marketing firm located in New York, have joined forces as associates in database direct mail marketing. The companies share related histories, as well as canine monikers, with Tom Hitchcock, president of Wolf Pack, and Russ Madison, president of Lone Wolf, having worked as a creative team in two Connecticut ad agencies before venturing off for themselves. Along with the 50 years' combined expertise of Hitchcock and Madison, the Wolves have included two database research veterans in their pack: Gideon Vidgerhous and Niels Christensen.

Goodwick Responds to Challenges
Goodwick Associates of Newtown has for the third time in eight months been featured in the national arts publication, Graphic Design:usa. The agency was one of 25 ad or design groups asked to participate in the magazine's May '99 special report on The Challenges of Designing Brochures and Collateral.. In response, Goodwick Associates referenced their recent work for client Triple Point Technology, a Westport-based global software provider. Graphic Design:usa also featured the agency twice in late 1998.
