Workplace surveys have grown in popularity since the September 11 attacks. One such study by Cigna Health Care, How Americans are Coping With Crisis, found that many workers appreciated company-provided resources such as a 24-hour health information line and counseling.
It's being able to document for our customers - and people we hope to be our customers - that the kinds of services we offer are truly valued by their employees, explains Dennis Hickey, Cigna's assistant vice president of research and intelligence.
Other such studies look at issues such as the effect of the terrorist attacks on employees working in high-rise office buildings. Private companies seeking to add a measure of credibility to their surveys often try to partner with nonprofits such as the Society for Human Resource Management to conduct surveys.
