At the event, Business New Haven Editor Michael C. Bingham presented the publication's 1998 Community Leadership Award to H. Pearce Co. founder and Chairman Herbert H. Pearce for his efforts and accomplishments at community-building over the course of a real-estate career that has spanned four decades, and counting.
The 82-year-old awardee was not in New Haven to accept the honor personally, although he was present via cell phone from Texas, where he was on his honeymoon. Pearce President Barbara Pearce accepted the plaque in her father's honor.
Fred Maretz of Levey Miller Maretz & Proto, BNH's 1997 honoree, was at the event to wish Pearce well and purportedly to advance his candidacy as a senior astronaut on a future space-shuttle mission.
