More Than $200 Million in Construction Projects Proposed For New Haven City Schools

This fall's opening of the $28.5 million, 165,000-square-foot inter-district magnet school, the Hill Regional Allied Health & Business High School on Route 34, signals the first completed project of a nearly $300 million construction budget for New Haven city schools. Other projects include:

Regional Aquaculture High School (new construction). Inter-district magnet high school, estimated costs $17.85 million, completion summer 2001. Status: Design development.

New Haven Arts Magnet Middle School (new construction). Grades 5-8. Estimated cost $24 million, completion July 2001. Status: Consideration of proposed site by New Haven Board of Alderman and development of design.

Fair Haven Elementary School (new construction). Grades K-8. Estimated cost $26.5 million. Completion summer 2001. Status: Site selection under way.

Isadore Wexler School (renovation and expansion). Grades pre-K-5. Estimated cost $13.9 million, completion summer 2001. Status: Construction slated to commence summer of 2000.

Katherine Brennan School (renovation). Grades 1-5. Estimated costs $10.4 million, completion summer of 2001.

Jackie Robinson School (new construction). Grades 5-8. Estimated costs $34 million, completion summer 2002. Status: Approvals expected in June 1999. Site selection spring 1999.

Lincoln Basset School (renovation). Expansion grades pre-K-5. Estimated costs $13.2 million, completion summer 2000.

Clarence Rogers School (renovation). Head Start, pre-K-K grades. Estimated costs $5 million, completion fall 1999. Status: Currently vacant, to be converted to early childhood center. Designs are underway for state review.

Fair Haven Middle School (renovation). Grades 5-8. Estimated costs $27 million, completion summer 2001. Status: Selecting architect.

Prince/Welch School (new). Grades pre-K-5. Estimated costs $22 million, completion date July 2001. Status: Land acquisition.

Edgewood School (renovation and expansion). Grades K-8. Estimated costs $8.94 million, completion summer 1999. Status: Under construction.

Harry Conte Community School (renovation and expansion). Grades K-8. Estimated costs $15.85 million, completion summer 2000. Status: Design development under way.
