WATERBURY - Webster Bank (NASDAQ: WBST) has earned “Preferred Lender” status from the U.S. Small Business Administration because of the high quality of loans the bank has referred to the SBA. The status enables Webster to hasten the process for loan approvals. The bank is the eighth-largest lender by dollar amount for SBA loans in Connecticut. For the 1998 fiscal year, Webster's SBA-related loan volume was $7.4 million.
