People's has named John F. DaRin vice president, region manager for the Bridgeport commercial lending region. He will manage the region's existing loan portfolio, the origination of commercial lending business and the cross-selling of other People's products and services. He previously served as vice president, senior commercial loan officer in people's Stamford region. DaRin joined People's in 1994. He holds a bachelor's degree in finance and an MBA from the University of Connecticut.
Bayer Corp. has named George J. Lykos senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. Lykos, who joined Bayer in 1988, previously served as assistant general counsel for Bayer Diagnostics in Tarrytown, N.Y. and vice president and assistant general counsel for the Bayer North American Pharmaceutical Division in West Haven.
Brad Saxton, associate dean and professor of law at the University of Wyoming College of Law, has been appointed dean of the Quinnipiac University School of Law effective July 11. Saxton received his B.A. from the College of William & Mary, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia. Saxton clerked with the Hon. Louis F. Oberdorfer. U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Previously he worked for the law firm of Hogan & Hartson in Washington, D.C.
People's Bank has named Matthew A. Spoerndle of Milford municipal banking and finance officer. He will managing the borrowing process for municipalities needing to finance public projects such as school improvements and open space acquisition as well as provide cash-management services. A former municipal banking and finance analyst, before joining People's Spoerndle was an account executive with Prime Charter in New York. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
Bernadette Smeriglio, a residential real estate agent in the Wallingford office of Calcagni Associates, has earned the Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI) designation from the National Association of Realtors. Smeriglio is also an Accredited Buyer Representative.
The Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce has named Robin Wilson president of the Governor's Prevention Partnership's Mentoring Leadership Council. The group provides oversight and guidance for the partnership with a special focus on the school's Business Mentoring Alliance. It comprises business, governmental, educational, philanthropic and community leaders.
Northeast Christians At Work announced that R. Richard Everett, president of Everett Financial Group in North Haven, is the recipient of a 2001 Northeast Marketplace Ministry Award in the Most On-Fire Business Owner category.
Bruce Saulnier, associate professor of computer information systems in the Quinnipiac University School of Business, has been named the 24th president of the International Society for Exploring Teaching Alternatives (ISETA). The organization was founded in 1970 as a faculty professional-development organization to encourage the study of instruction and principles of learning.
Jinny Patrick has joined the staff of Golden O'Neill & Gebhardt, Inc. an insurance firm founded in New Haven in 1931. Patrick, who will work in the personal lines department, was previously with USI Insurance Services/Riverside Insurance in Norwalk.
Carolyn Mazure, professor of psychiatry and director of Women's Health Research at Yale, has been appointment associate dean for faculty affairs at the Yale School of Medicine. She will oversee the appointment and promotions process, provide counsel to the dean and deputy dean for academic and scientific affairs regarding faculty issues and collaborate with other key members of the medical school administration. Mazure will continue to direct Women's Health Research. A member of the faculty since 1982, she served as director of the Adult Inpatient Psychiatry Program for nine years and recently was chief of psychology for the Yale-New Haven Psychological Hospital. She is a fellow of the American Psychology Association.
Michael Holquist, professor of Slavic languages and literatures and chairman of the department of comparative literature at Yale, has been awarded an honorary doctoral degree by Stockholm University in Sweden. Holquist is best known for his writings on the Russian literary historian M.M. Bakhtin.
Oxford Health Plans has named Robert L. Natt executive vice president of the New England region. Natt will oversee the integration of Oxford's new acquisition, Connecticut-based MedSpan Inc. The MedSpan acquisition is expected to close by March 31, subject to regulatory approvals. Natt led Physicians Health Services for 14 years, most recently as president and CEO.
Ron Barisano, executive director of the Housatonic Council Boys Scouts of America, has been elected chairman of the Valley Council of Health & Human Service Organizations, a cooperative venture linking 50 non-profit health & human service providers throughout the Valley. Barisano has been executive director of the Housatonic Council since 1997. He previously served as field director for the Essex Council in Verona, N.J.
The Meriden Business & Learning Center has named Dave Harduby manager of sales. Harduby has been in the communication industry for ten years, most recently as an outside sales representative for Graybar Electric. He was previously with Verizon wireless as an account representative.
AmeriCares, the international disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization headquartered in New Canaan, has named Duncan Edwards of Greenwich president and chief operating officer. He previously was a teacher/administrator and headmaster with the Brunswick School in Greenwich. Edwards will oversee daily operations at AmeriCares as well as programs, communications and development. He holds an A.B. from Princeton and a Master's from Columbia. He is also a director of the Greenwich Bank & Trust Co.
