WATERBURY - Webster Financial Corp. (NASDAQ: WBST) has announced an agreement to purchase Village Bancorp Inc. (NASDAQ: VBNK) in a deal valued at about $46.6 million. Village, headquartered in Ridgefield, is the holding company for Village Bank & Trust Co. (OTCBB: VBKC). The deal includes a stock-for-stock exchange with value at $23.50 per share. The acquisition will expand Webster's operations into Litchfield and Fairfield counties. Webster Bank has more than 100 bank offices and assets of $9.2 billion.
