For the low, low, low price of $29, you can now fly from Connecticut to scenic Buffalo, N.Y.
Of course, you have to get to Bradley Airport in Windsor Locks, first. That's where the state's newest air carrier, Shuttle America, has its corporate headquarters. Shuttle America commenced operations November 12 with three daily flights between Bradley and Buffalo. November 20 will see the addition of five daily trips between Bradley and Wilmington, Del. Additional service to Norfolk, Va. will begin next month.
Fares will begin at just $29, one way.
Operating spanking new 50-seat deHavilland Dash-8-300 turboprops, Shuttle America likens itself to a mini-version of carrier Southwest Airlines, whose low-cost flights have generated strong passenger growth at airports in Providence, R.I. and Manchester, N.H., as well as saving many air travelers from the horrors of ground transportation to and from Boston's Logan International Airport.
Says Shuttle America President and CEO David P. Hackett, Shuttle America is hopeful the new carrier will stir a revolution in regional travel by bringing low fares and frequent non-stop and direct fares to uncongested airports in major under-served markets throughout the Northeast.
Speaking of uncongested airports, Tweed-New Haven Airport Authority officials confirm that they have had preliminary discussions with Shuttle America regarding service to the beleaguered flyway. However, Shuttle America marketing vice president Mark Cestari cautions that Tweed is only one of many options the new carrier is examining, and that significant infrastructure improvements would need to be made to render Tweed a viable destination.
