Site Unseen
Thank you for the excellent coverage of the Bridgeport Economic Resource Center in the October 5, 1998 issue of Business New Haven. The article makes reference to our Web site, but does not list the URL.
Since I built the site for our organization, I would like as many people as possible to visit it. The URL is http://www.bridgeport-econ.org.

To Our Readers
Many, many readers called to inquire about the provenance of the cover photograph on page 1 of our October 5 Complete Guide to Business. Several guesses, educated and otherwise, were offered to explain the possible function of the equipment shown here:
It's the machine that manufactures Viagra pills;
It's Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce President Matthew Nemerson's brain;
The machine First Union Bank puts commercial-loan applicants through to determine credit-worthiness;
The engine of capitalism, left here eons ago by aliens;
A handy employee-shrinking device (see below left);
To minimize interfaith marriages, this device converts Christians to Judaism;
It's the Barbara Kennelly think tank;
The machine that controls the New York Giants offense;
It's the centerpiece of Mayor DeStefano's vision for a new downtown;
Mr. Peabody's Way-Back Machine.
All fine suggestions, and all wrong. In truth, this device, built by Asea, is an AC-DC conversion substation.
So there.
