Alexion Pharmaceuticals annoucnced that the United states Patent and Trademark Office has issued U.S. Patent `XENOTRANSPLANTATION THERAPIES'' which relates to the Company's xenotransplantation program. This U.S. patent covers the cloned pig gal transferase gene. Gal transferase is responsible for synthesis of the cell-bound sugars that are targets of rejection by the human immune system.
