NEW HAVEN - The Communications Workers of America and Connecticut Union of Telephone Workers began a strike against Southern New England Telecommunications (NYSE: SNG) on August 23. Disagreements between the company and the union involved pay, a tiered wage structure and employee payments for health coverage. The strike involves about 6,300 technicians, operators and customer service employees. Southern New England Telecommunications provides telephone services to Connecticut residents. The stock closed August 24 at 69 9/16, up 3/16.
