STAMFORD - GE Capital Corp., a subsidiary of General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE), will acquire MetLife Capital Corp, Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.'s commercial finance unit. GE Capital will use this acquisition for new financial products to be offered to companies in the small to mid-sized range. General Electric, with corporate offices in Fairfield, is involved in lighting, aircraft engines, appliances, capital services businesses as well as electrical, industrial and power systems. It is also the parent of the National Broadcasting Co. (NBC).
Travelers Group Inc. (NYSE: TRV) closed at 54 5/8 on August 21, down 1 3/8. However, Cigna (NYSE: CI) closed up 4 5/16 to 66 5/16.
General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) closed up 2 3/16 to 89 5/8 on August 21.
