Since 1992 Ames Department Stores (NASDAQ: AMES) has made the top 100 list of retail stores in a study done by the National Retail Federation. This year Ames came in at No. 77. With headquarters in Rocky Hill, Ames has 299 stores, primarily in the Northeast. Its stock closed on July 21 at 27 1/2, up 1 point from the past week's low of 26 1/2.
Curagen Corp. (NASDAQ: CRGN) of New Haven announced that it will provide genetic research to Dupont Agricultural Enterprise for the purpose of developing improved pesticides. Curagen's stock moved up 56 cents on July 20 to $8, but closed slightly down on July 21 at 7 3/4.
Amphenol Corp. (NASDAQ: APH) stock moved up more than four points since July 15. The company recently announced that it had record-setting second quarter earnings (see accompanying story). The stock closed July 21 at 44 1/8, up 1 1/2 over the previous day. Amphenol is headquartered in Wallingford.
Travelers Group Inc. (NYSE: TRV), with offices in Hartford, dropped 3 5/8 to close at 69 on July 21.
People's Choice TV Corp. (OTC: PCTV) of Shelton has been removed from NASDAQ and is now traded via Over-the-Counter Bulletin Board. The company is moving out of the wireless cable TV business and moving into wireless data transmission. Its stock was trading below one on July 15 but is inching up and closed July 21 at 1.375, up 0.282 from the day before.
