NEW HAVEN - Results from Alexion Pharmaceutical's (NASDAQ: ALXN) Phase I/II and Phase IIa trials of its C5 inhibitor 5G1.1-SC in 35 heart bypass surgery patients has shown positive results. The drug aims at reducing inflammation and thereby easing the strain of coronary artery bypass surgery on the patient. Initial results presented to the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists showed that the C5 inhibitor significantly reduced cardiac damage and blood loss.
