ANSONIA - The Valley United Way has won two awards in the Annual United Way of America Communications Contest: a first place in the newsletter category and a second place in the Web site category.
The communications contest is designed to showcase what are called 'effective practices' by United Ways throughout the system, explains Vincent Palacino Jr., assistant director and campaign director of the Valley United Way.
Each year, hundreds of United Ways submit entries, grouped according to the size of each organization's annual campaign. The Valley United Way was competing with other United Ways whose campaigns are less than $4 million.
Entries are judged by marketing and communications professionals. Award-winning entries will be showcased in the 1998 Communications Book that will be distributed to the more than 1,300 United Way chapters nationwide.
Without the generous support of Mike Allocca, a board member and president of Ascom Hasler Mailing Systems, we would not have been able to have made the changes in our newsletter and other materials, says Carol Aimone, president of the board of the Valley United Way. Mike has made [his] company's advertising agency, McCurdy & Partners of Wallingford, and creative agency, Melanie Thomson Creative Designs of Newington, available to us to redesign our newsletter and to rework all of our campaign and marketing materials, all at no cost to the Valley United Way.
