HARTFORD - According to a recent report by the state's Office of Health Care Access, some of New Haven County's acute care hospitals improved their rankings over last year's measure of cost-efficiency, while others regressed. A total of 32 hospitals throughout the state were evaluated based on actual FY 1996 data and assigned cost index rankings, with the least cost-effective hospital assigned the lowest rank. Sixty-three percent had a cost index higher - or lower cost-effectiveness - than the statewide weighted average, or standard cost per inpatient.
