BRANFORD - Neurogen (NASDAQ: NRGN) announced unexpected results in a Phase I human clinical trials of NGD 95-1, an anti-obesity drug candidate. The trial, which attempted to identify the maximum tolerable dose of the drug, was halted when some participants showed elevated levels of some liver enzymes. Previous animal trials had shown no such adverse side-effects, so the company will have to re-evaluate its data before engaging in further testing. In another story, Bear Stearns downgraded Neurogen from a buy to a neutral rating.
