NEW HAVEN - Alexion Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: ALXN) announced a marked revenue increase from its first quarter, ending October 31, over last fiscal year. Research and development expenses also grew from $1.97 million to $2.36 million, leaving Alexion with earnings of $0.13 a share compared to a $0.22 loss last year.
BRANFORD - Echlin (NYSE: ECH) reported earnings off somewhat from the first quarter (ended November 30) of last fiscal year. Excluding one-time gains from the sale of a subsidiary, Echlin's earnings dropped from $0.54 to $0.52 per share. Net sales were up 4.5 percent, but only 2.0 percent after compensating for acquisitions and divestitures.
