On October 6, U.S. Sens. Christopher J. Dodd and Joseph I. Lieberman nominated Stephen C. Robinson, a 40-year old New Havener who is currently chief compliance officer for Aetna U.S. Healthcare, for the U.S. Attorney slot vacated when Christopher F. Droney was appointed to the federal bench. Robinson is far from a newcomer to the federal system, having served as an assistant U. S. attorney in the Southern District of New York from 1987-91 and as principal deputy general counsel with the FBI from 1992-95. Since his background check needs only three years of update, it is anticipated that the Senate confirmation process will take less time than normal and that his appointment will likely become a reality in early 1998. In addition to his position at Middletown-based Aetna, Robinson teaches a trial practice class at the Yale Law School.
