NEW HAVEN - Yale is one of 11 universities nationwide participating in the first national study to determine the most effective current treatments for alcoholism by evaluating various combinations of medications and counseling. Last January the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism launched the COMBINE (Combining Medications and Behavioral Interventions) study, which is part of the National Institutes of Health.

Yale researchers are recruiting 125 adults for the study. Participants will be screened for alcoholism, and those who meet the study criteria will receive either counseling alone or a combination of counseling and one or more medications or a placebo. For more information call 888-311-9253.
