NEW HAVEN - An experimental cancer treatment developed by Yale researchers has been licensed to Vion Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: VION). As reported in the October 15 issue of Cancer Research, John M. Pawelek of the Yale School of Medicine and his colleagues worked with Vion scientists to develop a cancer therapy using Salmonella bacteria, the same bacteria that cause food poisoning. Genetically engineered bacteria injected into mice no longer cause illness, but instead slow the growth of cancerous tumors.
