State Joins Sprint's PCS Network
HARTFORD - To promote the launch of its digital wireless phone service in Connecticut, Sprint is offering consumers and businesses in Hartford (the service will be extended to New Haven and Bridgeport by year's end) an introductory package that includes 300 minutes of talk time each month for $30 and toll-free calling for ten area codes. Sprint says the advanced PCS technology provides clearer, more secure connections and virtually eliminates the cross-talk and static common to conventional cellular phone systems. The city-by-city launch is the first phase of Sprint's plan to offer a nationwide PCS service using a single technology.
IT Execs Reveal Internet Plans
STAMFORD - Leveraging the benefits of the Internet to enhance management reporting systems and business analysis capabilities is a top priority among executives who implement corporate financial and accounting systems, according to a recent survey conducted jointly by Hyperion Software of Stamford and Deloitte & Touche. The most common IT initiatives planned: expanding links between the Internet and in-house systems and increasing the use of agent technologies for online alerts and notifications.
New ALE Software Unveiled
WILTON - TSI International Ltd. of Wilton, which completed its IPO in July, recently announced the release of Mercator, an Application Link Enabling (ALE) Converter being showcased as the company's flagship product. A leading developer of software for business application integration, TSI is promoting Mercator as an any-to-any data transformation tool that creates seamless interfaces between business applications, without the need for intermediary programs, and reduces the time and cost of integrating applications.
High-Tech Winners Circle
An award for the Most Outstanding Copier Line of 1997 was recently presented to Pitney Bowes Copier Systems of Trumbull by Buyer's Laboratory Inc., an independent office products testing laboratory. Pitney Bowes won seven other copier awards in various speed and volume categories.
A Web site designed by Magnum Resources of Cheshire for the Connecticut Association for Human Services was named one of five Hot Sites by USA Today on September 18. Called the Kids Food Cyber Club (www.kidsfood.org), the interactive site uses games and puzzles to help children learn about food, nutrition and hunger and also features activities for teachers and parents.
