New Mandates for Health Insurers

HARTFORD - The General Assembly has passed a series of new mandated benefits that all health insurers in the state must offer. These benefits took effect on October 1 or upon renewal of a member's contract. Below is a summary:
Hearing aids for children age 12 and under will be covered as durable medical equipment under policies, up to $1,000 per child within a two-year period.
Colorectal screenings will be covered in accordance with recommendations established by the American Cancer Society.
One mammogram will be covered every year for women age 40 and older.
Pap smears for women must be covered.
Mandated coverage for all medications considered to be psychotropic drugs. Coverage is subject to utilization management, as well as co-payment amounts.
