UI Toys with Customers
United Illuminating has been selling its digger derrick trucks, the ones used to install poles and lift heavy equipment.
Okay, the New Haven-based utility hasn't really sold off its service fleet. These trucks were custom-built miniatures, priced at $19.95 - $5 of which went to support Operation Fuel, the low-income fuel assistance program.
Each 11-inch truck has working lights, moving wheels and a bank slot for coins. Constructed of high-impact plastic, the truck features a moveable, telescoping boom with an auger bit and extendible riggers.
UI promoted the trucks in inserts that went out with the company's October bills.
