Calling All Volunteers
The Sage Services Money Management Program is a non-profit counseling service that utilizes trained volunteers to assist seniors with basic household finances. One of the primary goals of the program is to educate seniors about their finances so that they can remain independent in the community.
Based in New Haven, the program helps people from throughout New Haven County. Volunteers usually spend several hours per month with clients after initially being trained by Sage Staff. A basic knowledge of household money management along with a willingness to counsel seniors is helpful.
The next volunteer training session will take place on Mondays, September 22 and September 29, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Sage offices at 703 Whitney Avenue in New Haven. Those interested in volunteering (even if they cannot attend these training sessions) may call 203-777-7401.
Sage Services is a non-profit agency that serves people aged 55 and older in New Haven County. The Money Management Program is primarily supported by a grant from the South Central Connecticut Agency on Aging.

CORRECTION
An item in the August 25 Business New Haven incorrectly listed the Central Connecticut Business, Industry & Technology Expo '97 as scheduled for September 24. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, September 23. Admission is $10, although one free pass will be given to all pre-registrants. Call Daniels Productions at 860-920-3250.
AMPLIFICATION
In our August 25 downtown business review, the eatery Dos Tacos was characterized as serving traditional-style tacos. Owner Bob Anderson took issue with that, saying that his restaurant serves non-traditional style tacos, more East Coast. Focusing on the business' relocation in June, the review omitted its startup date at its former location on Park Street: November 1993.
Hats Off
As a denizen of a downtown New Haven office, I read with interest your interview with [Town Green Special Services District executive director] Jane Snaider (BNH, August 25).
Although her enthusiasm is admirable, those stupid hats [worn by uniformed hospitality officers] have got to go! Since New Haven is older than any city in Australia, why not hark back to our own traditions, instead of mimicking those of some place halfway around the world? Or are we now trying to make New Haven the Melbourne of the '90s?
I also haven't figured out what these green-shirted Crocodile Dundee wannabes actually do - unless professional strolling is a new occupational trend I somehow missed.
