Not Close, and No Cigar of Any Kind
This letter is in reference to the photograph of the man mistakenly identified as SNET's corporate advertising director, Harry Carey (BNH, November 6).
That has got to be a photo of the actor Stacy Keach, who hasn't been in anything I've seen recently, but I know it's him.
Keach has been around for ages. Your business news pundits have got to start subscribing to TV Guide!
Let me know how many people got the right answer. And incidentally, BNH is a great newspaper. Keep up the good work.
- Peter Dean New Haven
The editor replies: Mystery solved - though not by Mr. Dean. The hitherto unknown man in the photo in fact called to identify himself, and the call did not originate in Hollywood. He is David R. Clark, principal of DRC Advertising in Danbury. Mr. Clark knew who he was, and we also received a call from DRC's Renee Protomastro, who knew who her boss was. To both of them, as promised, go a pair of tickets to an upcoming Orchestra New England concert. To Mr. Dean, a hearty handshake.
Bridgeport's Better Off Without It
The recent defeat of enabling legislation allowing the Mashantucket Pequots to build a casino in Bridgeport will in the long run turn out to be a good bet for the people of Bridgeport.
In addition to the much-discussed problems associated with gambling - including crime, traffic, low-paying, low-skilled jobs - a casino would be sure to displace many small businesses who have called Bridgeport home for many years.
Now that the pie in the sky has been shown to be an illusion after all, Bridgeport leaders can I hope once again pursue sensible strategies of economic development that will benefit all businesses - including small and mid-sized ones. These are the best hope for making Bridgeport once again a vital place.
- Scott Rucker

CLARIFICATION
In a November 20 story in Business New Haven, it was reported that Diane Frailey Petra, principal of Petra Real Estate Corp., would manage the new New Haven office of Farley Whittier Partners. In fact, while Petra is now a vice president of Farley Whittier, she is not, strictly speaking, managing the office. Trevor H. Davis Jr., also a Farley Whittier vice president, will be doing the management honors. We regret the error.
