Manufacturing Applications Center (MAC), Central Connecticut State University, Institute of Industrial and Engineering Technology. At this state-of-the-art facility, small, mid-sized and minority-owned businesses investigate new technologies and solve manufacturing problems in a controlled environment.. Aids technology transfers, engineering and prototyping.

The Center for Flexible Manufacturing Networks (CFMN) at CCSU links small and mid-sized manufacturing firms to collaborate and share marketing, production and technical resources. Target industries include biotechnology, precision machining, aerospace, materials fabrication.
The Total Quality Training Center at CCSU and the Technical Training Center (TTC) provide on-the-job and classroom training in Total Quality Management, ISO 9000, Taguchi methods and SPC to small and mid-sized firms. Environmental Research Institute (ERI). A unique engineering research and teaching initiative, focusing on state-of-the-art environmental and pollution-prevention technologies. The Connecticut Manufacturing Program for Energy Technology (COMPETE). Assistance to develop and manufacture energy-saving products. Can assist in obtaining funding. Federal Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR). Businesses employing fewer than 500 can obtain federal R&D grants up to $850,000. Eleven federal agencies fund the program, including the Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, NASA, the Department of Energy and the Department of Public Health & Addiction Services. These agencies publish Solicitations, listing topics that companies may respond to by writing a proposal. The SBA publishes Pre-Solicitation Announcements with valuable introductory information. National Technology Transfer Center (NTTC). Transfers technologies from federal laboratories U.S. firms. Your R&D department can collaborate with federal laboratory experts to identify applicable technologies, modify them to meet your needs and get help through to commercialization. Call 800-678-NTTC

Center for Technology Commercialization, Inc. (CTC). Your company may be able to commercialize technologies from federal laboratories and universities. This new venture, funded by NASA, has access to more than 600 laboratories, offers consulting services, sponsors conferences and workshops, and publishes a newsletter. Call 508-870-0042.

Community-Based Development Organizations. A DED regional agent can provide details about programs of the Hartford Economic Development Corp. (HEDCO), New Haven Community Investment Corp., the Housatonic Industrial Development Corp. (HIDC), and the Bridgeport Economic Development Corp. (BEDCO). Call NHCIC at 203-776-6172

Defense Information Services Network (DISN). Provides comprehensive services for defense companies wanting to diversify into commercial markets. It also helps them compete more effectively for defense contracts. Call 800-392-2122

Connecticut Defense Support and Diversification Program. The state has a Washington-based liaison who researches opportunities for state firms to compete for defense contracts and to broaden their non-defense contracting.
