As Connecticut's economy continues in its torpor, Nutmeg State observers look elsewhere to see what's working, and where. One region that invites comparisons by virute of its business-friendly environment is the Carolinas, which have boomed even as New England lags. Indeed, not a few Connecticut CEOs have been approached by economic-development officials from the south-central U.S. to relocate plants or entire businesses there. And some have in fact made the move to greener pastures.
But are they getting what they paid for? According to one native Connecticut businessperson (who shall remain nameless) who has put in a tour of duty in South Carolina, there may be more to the North-South dichotomy than meets the eye.
