| MIDDLETOWN - The Kidcity Children's Museum is the recipient of the 2001 Award for Excellence in Tourism, presented each year by the Connecticut River Valley and Shoreline Visitors Council. Opened in September 1998, Kidcity is the culmination of volunteer work and donations from many segments of the community. The hands-on educational playground is for kids from six months to ten years old and offers two floors of exhibitions where kids can hoist the sails on a clipper ship, star in movies at a video theater, run the town on Main Street and create their own superhero at Comic Creations. Babies can also play on a farm. Since its opening, Kidcity has received more than 150,000 visitors.
