STAMFORD - As part of its strategy to expand the geographic scope of its business, Lifecodes Corp. announced the purchase of Helix Biotech Ltd. of Vancouver, B.C., the largest paternity-testing laboratory in Canada, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Genomics International Canada, Ltd. A leading manufacturer and supplier of DNA products for human identity and transplantation, Lifecodes has become a driving force in the trend toward consolidation in its field. In recent months the company purchased GeneScreen Inc. of Dallas, the second-largest paternity testing laboratory in the U.S.; Micro Diagnostic Inc. of Nashville; and International Support for Bone Marrow Drives Ltd. of High Point, N.C.
