DERBY - More than a 12 months after it was green-lighted by local zoning officials, BJ's Wholesale Club still lacks two permits needed to begin construction on the 58,000-square-foot store on 13 acres near the Ansonia town line.
The city building inspector and the state Department of Transportation (DOT) still need to sign off on plans for the store. According to the town Building Inspector's office, the Natick, Mass.-based retail chain has been asked to revise its wheelchair accessibility plan, which in original form did not comply with state regulations governing placement of exits. The state DOT is also reviewing a plan for a road connecting the store with Division Street, a state thoroughfare.
The store would be the first BJ's in the Lower Naugatuck Valley.
