New Mandates for Insurers

HARTFORD - The General Assembly passed a series of new mandated benefits that all health insurers in the state must offer. These benefits took effect on October 1 or upon renewal of a member's contract. These include:
Hearing aids for children age 12 and under will be covered as durable medical equipment under policies, up to $1,000 per child within a two-year period.
Colorectal screenings will be covered in accordance with guidelines established by the American Cancer Society.
One annual mammogram will be covered for women age 40 and older.
Coverage of pap smears is mandated.
Psychotropic drugs are covered subject to utilization management, as well as copayment amounts.
