MILFORD - The town's Planning & Zoning Board has approved conceptual plans for two major retail projects, although the developers must return with final plans before work can start on either project.
The decision means that the owners of the Westfield Shoppingtown Connecticut Post mall can apply for state approvals for a planned 430,000-square-foot expansion, including a new Macy's and two new parking garages.
The separately approved a zone change at the former Milford Jai-Alai property on Old Gate Lane that would allow a large shopping center to be built on the site, Owners of the 25-acre parcel want it rezoned from heavy industrial to general industrial, which would permit retail use. The fronton closed in December, and the property is being marketed for $15 million.
The mall expansion would replace the former Caldor on the west side of the 87-acre site with a three-story Macy's, add a third story onto Filene's and create a new 112,000-square-foot shopping concourse.
