TRUMBULL - Pilot Pen of America President and CEO Ronald G. Shaw told non-profit professionals at the May 29 Connecticut Conference on Volunteerism at Quinnipiac University that corporate philanthropy pays off in personal gratification and enhanced corporate reputation.
In his keynote address Shaw, who was presented with Quinnipiac's President's Award, said that gratification from helping others is the primary reason why he continues to get involved, although he said the unexpected dividend of Pilot Pen's strong reputation is another benefit.
“There are few things that are more rewarding than knowing you are making a positive difference,” Shaw said. “What I didn't realize when I first began volunteering is that it can also be rewarding to your company.”
Shaw told the more than 570 volunteers, agency staff, board members, executive directors and administrators of volunteer programs that companies active in philanthropic activities benefit in a number of ways: They strengthen their reputation, increase brand value, build strong community and government relationships, enjoy higher employee morale and loyalty, attract high-caliber employees, increase and sustain customer loyalty and receive favorable publicity.
