Michael J. Donoghue has been appointed director of the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History. A biodiversity expert, he is the G. Evelyn Hutchinson Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and chair of the department at Yale. Donoghue is currently the Peabody's curator of botany and also has faculty appointments in the Department of Geology and Geophysics and the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies. The author of 125 published papers, Donoghue previously served as professor in the Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology and Biology at Harvard and also served as director of the Harvard Herbaria before joining the Yale faculty in 1999. He earned his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. in biology from Harvard. He has taught at San Diego University, the University of Arizona and was a visiting professor at Stanford University.
Hans Bergman, an English professor at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. For 25 years, has been named dean of Quinnipiac University's College of Liberal Arts effective July 1. He earned his bachelor's degree at Amherst College and his Ph.D in English literature at the University of Connecticut. Bergman has held a range of administrative positions at GMU, including interim dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, dean for academic programs, associate dean for graduate programs and director of the New Media Group in English.
The Kimball Group Inc., a Bridgeport commercial real estate and development company, has named James E. Kelly to head its commercial real estate brokerage division. Kelly, who has been with the firm since September, is a former senior executive with General Electric. Previously he served as managing director and co-founder of First Greenwich Capital Corp., a general equipment leasing company.
H. Pearce Co., Realtors has named Didi Strode a residential sales associate in the company's New Haven office. Previously Strode was a market analyst with Lucent Technologies. She received her undergraduate degree from the University if Connecticut and her MBS in marketing from the University of New Haven.
Bradford H. Wainman has been named first vice president for commercial real estate finance at People's Bank, where he will be responsible for new business development and portfolio management for the bank's eastern region including grater Hartford, New Haven and Norwich markets in Connecticut as well as other New England states. Before joining People's in 1995 Wainman was vice president and manager of real estate/managed assets for Shawmut Bank in Hartford. He holds a bachelor's in business administration and finance and a master's in business, both from the University of Connecticut and has studied strategic thinking and management at the Wharton School and leadership fundamentals at Columbia University Graduate School.
People's Bank has also announced the appointment of Robert L. Massaro as first vice president of commercial lending. Massaro joined People's in 1996 as vice president of the New Haven region in the bank's commercial division. He has served as senior loan officer and most recently was senior portfolio administrator for commercial lending and subsidiary People's Capital & Leasing Corp. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor's degree in accounting, he also holds an MBS from Quinnipiac University.
Phoenix Press of New Haven has named Larry F. Celey director of sales and marketing. Celey has 30 years of experience in the printing industry, most recently as senior vice president of sales and marketing for Perry-Judd's Inc.
John M. Ahle has been named corporate senior president/chief financial officer for St. Vincent's Medical Center and St. Vincent's Health Services in Bridgeport. He will direct the financial operation of St. Vincent's including budgeting, forecasting and cost-containment. He previously worked at Stamford Health Systems as director of accounting and most recently as vice president of finance. Ahle received his bachelor's from Pace University and his MBA from the University of New Haven.
St. Vincent's also announced the appointment of James B. LaFlamme as president of operations. He will oversee Medical Center operations, Medical Center system performance and direct patient care services. LaFlamme previously was executive vice president/chief operating officer at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend, Ind. He received his B.S. in pharmacy from the University of Connecticut and an M.S. in management from Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.
Donna Diers, Annie W. Goodrich Professor of Nursing and former Yale School of Nursing dean, is retiring after 40 years at Yale. Educated at the University of Denver and Yale, Diers earned her Ph.D from the University of Technology, Sydney this year. A Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, she has been honored by the Connecticut Nurses Association and American Nurses Association for contributions to nursing research. Yale honored her with a Distinguished Alumna Award and the Annie W. Goodrich award for excellence in teaching.
Netkey of Branford, a provider of software for customer self-service, has named Paul Shipman vice president of sales and Wah Chu vice president of professional services and solutions. Shipman, previously with Symbol Technologies, received a B.A. from the University of London and additional training at the Wharton School. Chu previously served as partner/managing director for KPMG Consulting and held executive positions at Hyperion Software. He holds an MBA in corporate finance from New York University and a B.S. in operations research from Cornell.
Trident Funding Corp. of Shelton announced that Vincent S. Luzietti has been named National Salesperson of the Year for the second year running. He has also been promoted to vice president. The Shelton office was awarded Sales Office of the Year for the third consecutive year.
Scillia, Dowling & Natarelli has announced four appointments: Jonathan Cort, Danielle Lawlor, Lorri Jongeneel and Lisa Moultrie. Cort, appointed a denior litigation consultant, earned his bachelor's and master's degrees, in accounting from Wake Forest University. Lawlor, a senior tax accountant, received her bachelor's degree from Southern Connecticut State University. Jongeneel will serva as an in-charge accountant. Previously with Ernst & Young, she is a graduate of the University of British Columbia. Moultrie was named administrative assistant.
American Savings bank has announced the appointmentof two vice presidents. Edward M. Proulx has been named vice president and investment executive with American Investment Services, a subsidiary of American Savings. A graduate of St. Anselm College in Manchester, NH, he previously served as a senior investment consultant with Investmant, a national pension consulting firm. James R. Tycz has been named vice president of compensation and benefits in the bank's HR department. Previously director of compensation and benefits for the Scholastic Corp., Tycz is a graduate of the University of Connecticut.
