Goodbye to All That

Business New Haven
6/24/2002
By: Anne-Marie Brungard
NEW HAVEN - Goldie & Libro Music Center Inc., Connecticut's oldest and perhaps best-known music store, recently moved to 380 Washington Avenue, North Haven. Goldie & Libro opened its doors in 1920 on Orange Street downtown, moving to 756 Chapel Street in 1965, where it remained until recently. The family-owned business specializes in band instrument sales, and also buys, trades and leases equipment. Generations of area residents are familiar with the center's on-site Bach pro shop and the brass, woodwind and string repair shop.

After more than 80 years in business in New Haven, Goldie & Libro packed up and moved without much fanfare, although the arrival of retail giant Sam Ash in Westville seven years ago cannot have helped.

Jack Libro, co-owner, although saddened by leaving New Haven, says of the new location: “It is more centrally located and more conducive for our customers who are scattered all over the state.”
