DERBY - The Yale School of Nursing Faculty Practice Group Women's Health & Midwifery has opened at 67 Maple Street. Women's Health & Midwifery offers full-scope primary health-care services to women of all ages. Care providers in this setting are experienced Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNM) and a Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP). These professionals have formal relationships with physicians practicing in the community with whom they consult, and refer patients as the need arises.
The center's director, Colleen Senterfitt, CNM, explains the services offered by both professional groups. Both CNMs and FNPs are considered primary-care providers, meaning they perform complete history and physicals, offer a wide range of health education, and diagnose and treat most common health conditions. The center will have great appeal to childbearing women.
Griffin Hospital's Childbirth Center also offers women a full range of options including a Jacuzzi tub, calming music, aroma and touch therapy. Women needing primary health-care services will appreciate having all their health-care needs met in one location, adds Senterfitt.
