Duncan Stewart has been named vice president for international sales for U.S. Baird of Stratford. He previously was general sales manager at the company. Before joining U.S. Baird in 1998 he was vice president of international sales for G&L of Wisconsin and director if international sales for Kingsbury Corp. in New Hampshire.

Harold Attridge, Lillian Claus Professor of New Testament, has been named dean of the Yale Divinity School. Attridge came to Yale in 1997 from the University of Notre Dame, where he was professor of theology and, from 1991 to 1996, dean of the College of Arts & Letters. He received his A.B. from Boston College, a B.A. and M.A. from Cambridge University, where he studied as a Marshall scholar, and a Ph.D. from Harvard. He was a Junior Fellow in the Society of Fellows at Harvard and, in addition to Notre Dame, also taught at the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. Attridge succeeds Rebecca Chopp, who was recently named president of Colgate University.

Karla Russo of Cheshire has been appointed director of special events in the public affairs department at Quinnipiac University. Russo, who was graduated from Quinnipiac with a degree in business management, previously served as a business information specialist at the Connecticut Economic Resource Center (CERC). She came to Quinnipiac in 2000 as manager of special events in public affairs.

Jonathan Biebesheimer and Abram Sirignano, principals of thunkIT and Brad4d Digital, were part of the winning tam that recently received the Connecticut Humanities Council's Wilbur Cross Award for Outstanding Use of Technology. The award was presented to the Connecticut Trust For Historic Preservation for the TownGreens.com project, a Web-based heritage tourism portal produced by the Connecticut Trust For Historic Preservation and developed by thunkIT.

The Public Relations Society of America's Connecticut Valley, southern Connecticut and Westchester/Fairfield chapters presented two awards to McLaughlin, DelVecchio & Casey Public Relations of New Haven. The firm won a gold in the “Best Special Events Campaign” and a “Best in Show” award for the Ken Burn's Mark Twain In-State Public Relations program for the Connecticut Office of Tourism.

John W. Hogan Jr., senior principal in the New Haven law firm of Hogan & Rini, PC, has been installed as the president-elect of the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA). Hogan, who has held a number of leadership positions in CBA, has won awards for professional service or civil involvement, including the CBA's 1995 John Eldred Shields Distinguished Professional Service Award and the Connecticut Courts of Probate 1998 Citizen of the Year Award. He previously served as vice president of the organization.

James B. LaFlamme has been appointed senior vice president of operations for St. Vincent's Medial Center. He will oversee medical center operations and system performance as well as direct patient care services. LaFlamme previously served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of St. Joseph Regional Medial center in South Bend, Ind. He received his B.S. degree in pharmacy from the University of Connecticut and his M.S. in Management from Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.

Also, John M. Ahle has been appointed corporate senior vice president/chief financial officer for the medical center and St. Vincent's Health Services. He previously served as vice president of finance at Stamford Health System. Ahle received his bachelor's of business administration in public accounting from Pace University and his M.B.A. from the University of New Haven.

Steven M Grove has been elected chairman of the Jewish Home for the Aged. He previously served as vice chair for finance on the home's board of directors. Grove founded S. Grove & Associates, an accounting firm, in 1991.

Fletcher-Thompson Inc., a Bridgeport- and Hartford-based architectural, engineering and interior design firm, has announced the appointment of two associates: Daniel M. Davis, AIA, has been named senior project architect and design leader for the Hartford office. He holds a master's degree in architecture from Pratt Institute and is an associate professor and director of the Department of Architecture at the University of Hartford. John B. Ireland, AIA, joined the firm in 1999 as a senior project manager. He holds a bachelor of architecture degree from Tulane University.

Milford city attorney Marilyn Lipton has been elected president of the Connecticut Association of Municipal Attorneys, comprising about 200 lawyers who practice municipal law in Connecticut. Lipton has been a member of the organization since 1986 and on its executive board since 1991.

John D. Lanza, CPA, a manager at Kostin, Ruffkess & Co., has been selected to serve on the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) Task Force on Economic Condition Reporting. The task force includes 12 members who have varied uses for financial statements and represent different fields. The group is charged with developing solutions to updating the present governmental financial reporting system. It will assess how the government financial reporting model meets the needs of users.

John L. Evanish Jr. of Wallingford has been named president of the Connecticut Society of CPAs. Evanich is a principal in the Glastonbury firm of Haggett, Longobardi & Co., LLC. He earned an A.S. from Housatonic Community College, a B.S. from the University of Bridgeport and attended the master's in taxation program at Pace University. Also, Michael Solakian of North Branford has been elected to serve a three-year term on the group's 17-member board of governors. He is managing partner in the Branford firm of Solakian, Caiafa & Co. Also elected to the board of governors was Stacey Serrano Sario of Waterbury, a financial consultant at Aetna.

The Greater Waterbury Chamber of Commerce has announced the election of six directors. Elected to three-year terms were: Peter Ameen of First Union/Wachovia; Jay Carlson of G&R Manufacturing; James Gatling of New Opportunities for Waterbury; Tom Peterson of Web-worx, Paul Portnoy of People's Bank; and Joel Rosario of Realty Executives.

Barbara H. Manning, who has served as the U.S. Small Business Association's (SBA) acting associate administrator for communication and public liaison, has been named Office of Advocacy Regional Advocate for the federal government's Region I, covering Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. She will be the direct link between small-business owners, state and local government agencies, state legislators, small business association and the SBA's Office of Advocacy. Manning has worked for the SBA for 16 years.

Margie Pantaleo, a supervisor in the cardiology department and a 22-year employee of Griffin Hospital in Derby, has been named Employee of the Year. Pantaleo was recognized for her “positive attitude, energy, technical and administrative skills and always impeccable demeanor.”

The Connecticut Bar Association has awarded the John Eldred Shields Distinguished Professional Services Award to Susan Wolfson of New Haven. Wolfson is a member of the law firm of Sussman, Duffy & Segaloff.
