VC Dollars Slow to a Trickle

Venture-capital investment in Connecticut firms has declined from $158.6 million during the second quarter of 2001 to just $34.8 million from April to June of this year, according to the most recent PricewaterhouseCoopers/Venture Economics/National Venture Capital Assoc. MoneyTree survey released July 29. Just nine VC investments were tendered during the period, according to the survey, compared with 19 a year ago.
The biggest winners were all local:
The Shelton-based Global Logistics Technologies received $20 million in a sixth financing round.
CYA Technologies of Trumbull, a software developer, attracted $4.8 million.
Stratford's SpineWave, which has developed a back-surgery product, earned $1 million in financing.
Netkey, of Branford, attracted $2.04 million in investment.
