NEW HAVEN - William B. Conner Jr., president of Clear Channel Entertainment-Boston, has been named president and CEO of CAPA, which manages the Shubert Performing Arts Center, effective September 1. The 50-year-old Connor succeeds Douglas F. Kridler, who left CAPA in February to become president of the Columbus (O.) Foundation. A six-month search was handled by Connecticut-based AMS Planning and Research, an arts consulting firm that has worked with CAPA for 12 years.
As president and CEO, Conner will head a three-city, $20 million operation that encompasses six venues with more than 13,000 seats that in the aggregate present some 300 events yearly. In addition to the Shubert, theaters under CAPA management include the Ohio Theatre, Palace Theatre, Southern Theatre and Riffe Center Theatre Complex (all in Columbus, O.), and the Chicago Theatre. Administrative operations at the Shubert will continue to be headed by CAPA Vice President John Fisher.
