Patricia Sweet, vice president of customer and external relations for the Regional Water Authority, has been appointed chair of the Advisory Board for the Greater New Haven Leadership Center, a program of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce. Sweet, who has been with the RWA since 1996, holds a bachelor's degree from Smith College and an executive MBA from the University of New Haven. She is a member of the board of directors of the Arts Council of Greater New Haven, United Way of Greater New Haven and Yale-New Haven Plan.

Regina M DeLuca has been named a partner in the Bridgeport law firm of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder. The Branford resident, who specializes in medical malpractice cases, joined the firm in 1998. A registered nurse, she is a graduate of Rutgers University and attended law school at the University of Connecticut.

John A. Mayers II, who has served as acting executive director of Yale Procurement for more than a year, has been appointed permanent head of the department. In addition, since 2000 Mayers has served as director of the Electronic Commerce and Procurement Systems department, part of the university's Division of Administrative Services. Mayers joined Yale in 1994 as senior applications developer in the School of Medicine's Information Technology Service's Department. He previously worked at the Southern New England Telecommunications Corp.

Gregory Bohnsack has been appointed director of finance of Pilot Pen Corp. of America. Bohnsack, who previously served as chief financial officer of Simkins Industries, a New Haven paper company, will be responsible for all of Pilot Pen's accounting and financial functions.

Kristen J. Busch has joined H. Pearce Real Estate's Corporate Services Division in North Haven. A recent graduate of Quinnipiac University with a B.A. in public relations and a minor in marketing, she joined the company in 2001 as a part-time intern.

Also at Quinnipiac, Todd R. Gibbs has been named director of alumni and parent relations. A 1998 graduate of Quinnipiac with a bachelor's degree in biology, he previously served as director of alumni at Holy Cross High School in Waterbury.

Joseph L. Woolston, M.D. has been appointed chief of child psychiatry at the Child Study Center and at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He is a professor of child psychiatry and pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine, medical director of Child Psychiatric Services at Yale-New Haven Hospital, medical director of the Yale Intensive In-Home Child and Adolescent Services at the Child Study Center and medical director of HUSKY Behavioral Plus. Woolston founded the Children's Psychiatric In-Patient Service at YNHH in 1985.

Alexine L. Janiszewski has been named president/CEO of VNA Services Inc., successor organization of the merged Regional Visiting Nurse Agency in Hamden and Shoreline VNA in Madison and Old Saybrook. Janiszewski previously served as corporate vice president for home health care at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Home Care Agency in New York. She also was executive director of the Visiting Nursing Association in Springfield, Mass. and president of VNAs of America, a national organization.

John C. Pottage Jr. has joined Achillion Pharmaceuticals as senior director of drug development. He previously served as medical director of antivirals for Vertex Pharmaceuticals in Cambridge, Mass. A graduate of St. Louis University School of Medicine and Colgate University, he also served as an associate attending physician at the Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston.

Donald S. Beckwith has been named vice president and chief lending officer of Essex Savings Bank, replacing the retiring Bruce A. Riker. Beckwith previously was vice president of credit and loan administration at Fairfield County Savings Bank in Norwalk. The North Havener holds a B.S. from the University of Connecticut.

John R. Mitteer has been named vice president for North American sales and marketing for the Stratford-based US Baird Corp. He previously served as general manager of the CNC Machine Division in Grand Rapids, Mich. Mitteer also served as president of JM Systems Corp. and president of A.I.M. Inc.



James E. Rosenbluth has joined Wiggin & Dana's Business Practice Department as counsel. Rosenbluth, who will work out of the company's New Haven office, is a speaker and writer on the legal aspects of venture capital financings and mergers and acquisitions. A Brown graduate, he earned his law degree from Columbia University School of Law.

Alan Russo, owner of Care Management Group and Care Training Center in New Haven, has been elected president of the Healthcare Council of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce. Tammy Murphy, director of community relations for Laurel Gardens Assisted Living Communities, has been elected vice president. Other officers include: Michaela Gallagher, Joel Sachs, Kathi Dest, Michelle Perron, Susan Adams and Lisa Comen.

The Connecticut World Trade Association (CWTA) has awarded Edward Stockton the inaugural “Todd Ouida World Trade Award” at its first World Trade Centers Day program. The award was named in honor of the son of CWTA Senior Executive Vice President Herb Ouida, who perished in the September 11 terrorist attacks. A member of CWTA since its founding in 1985, Stockton served as commissioner of economic development, and established an International Division within the organization.

James Macdonald has joined People's Bank as vice president, region manager, commercial lending. He previously served as senior relationship manager for Webster Bank in its New Haven banking division. A resident of Cheshire, Macdonald received a bachelor's degree from American University and a master of business administration from the University of New Haven.

Jo Palmieri of East Haven has been named research and development coordinator for the Albert Schweitzer Institute at Quinnipiac University. Previously an assistant product manager at WEKA Publishing, a computer manual publisher, Palmieri has a master's degree in business administration and a bachelor's degree in mass communications from Quinnipiac University.

Alan Ruskis, M.D. of Orange has been appointed chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology for the Hospital of Saint Raphael. He has been serving as interim chairman since Peter Lujic recently retired. Ruskis, board-certified in anesthesiology, has been medical director of ambulatory surgery since 1986. He earned his M.D. at Tuffs University and completed his residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was a chief resident of anesthesiology.

Patrick Smith of Fairfield has joined the Bridgeport law firm of Zeldes, Needle & Cooper as an associate. A graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Law, Smith previously practiced with a New York law firm.

Cynthia Whitcomb has been named director of public relations for Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford. The North Haven resident previously served as public relations associate at Gaylord. She holds a B.A. in mass communication from St. Bonaventure University in Olean, N.Y.

Ted Bertz, founder and owner of Bertz Design Group of Middletown, has been inducted into the Connecticut Art Directors Club's Hall of Fame. The award honors Connecticut individuals and companies that have distinguished themselves in the field of communications, including designers, art directors, photographers, illustrators, writers, scholars, corporations and printers.
