SEYMOUR - The state's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will acquire 27 acres of water company land by the end of next month, now that the state and Birmingham Utilities, owner of the property, have agreed on a price for the land. Earlier this month Birmingham agreed to sell 27 acres of property off Clinton and Rimmon roads in Seymour to the DEP for $537,500. Originally the asking price was $575,000, $75,000 more than the DEP originally offered for the property.
The agreement stipulates that the DEP will close on the property by September 30 and maintain it as open space. The land is adjacent to a parcel that Birmingham sold the state last year.
