HARTFORD - The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has awarded Cigna HealthCare of Connecticut Inc. statewide excellent accreditation status for its network products.
Excellent accreditation is the highest level of accreditation, reserved for managed health care organizations that deliver service and clinical quality that meet or exceed NCQA's rigorous requirements for consumer protection and quality improvement. In addition, Cigna's Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS) results are in the highest range of national performance.
Achieving excellent accreditation status from NCQA involves a rigorous on- and off-site evaluation conducted by a team of managed care experts, including physicians. More than 60 quality standards and selected HEDIS performance measures are reviewed during the voluntary evaluation process.
Cigna HealthCare of Connecticut serves more than 207,000 health plan participants in its HMO and POS product lines. Cigna HealthCare provides medical coverage through managed care and indemnity programs to approximately 14.3 million people, dental coverage to approximately 13 million and mental health coverage to approximately 14 million.
