Gregory A. Maddrey has been appointed vice president of government programs for Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield's Connecticut operations. Maddrey previously served as director of new product development for ChanelPoint, which develops and markets Internet software applications for health insurance sales and distribution. In addition he held leadership positions with the Advisory Board Company in Washington, D.C., CSB Healthcare Group and Schering Plough Inc. Maddrey holds a bachelor's degree from Tulane University and an MBA from Georgetown University's McDonough Graduate School of Business.

Phil Jermain has been appointed local sales manager of WTNH-TV in New Haven. In television sales for 15 years, he most recently was an account executive at WTNH. Also, Sem Dieterich has been promoted to local sales manager of sister station WCTX. He previously served as national sales manager for the station. Dieterich has held sales positions in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, New Orleans and St. Louis.

Christopher N. Dannen has joined People's Bank as vice president for residential lending. Dannen previously served as senior vice president of consumer construction lending for GMAC Mortgage. He also was vice president of First Union Mortgage Corp., where he managed the national construction program and sales force. He also served as vice president of First Union Corp. and as senior vice president of lending operations for Premier National Bank. Dannen has a bachelor's degree in economics from Manhattan College.

People's Bank also announced the appointment of Cheryl L. Cunneen as vice president of regional banking sales systems. In addition to developing new sales and promotional strategies, she will manage the branch incentive plan, implement sales reporting tools and maintain the branch sales reporting system. Cunneen joined People's in 1997 as a senior financial analyst in corporate finance, joining the bank's marketing and regional banking division in 2002. She has a bachelor's degree in finance from Babson College and studied international banking at the Sorbonne in Paris.

Nell Moss, director of membership of the Milford Chamber of Commerce, has received the Bronze Lifetime Achievement Award for the National Association for Membership Development. The award was presented at the organization's annual awards banquet in Las Vegas.

Kevin Murphy of Bridgeport has been named convention sales manager of the Coastal Fairfield County Convention & Visitors Bureau. His responsibilities will include the procurement of business in the meetings and conventions market on a national level. He previously served as corporate preferred sales manager for Holiday Inn Select in Stamford. He spent 17 years in the cruise line industry. A graduate of St. Leo University, Murphy holds a degree in business administration. Also, Tiffany Angelina Mendes has been hired as an administrative assistant at the Fairfield CVB. She is a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University with a B.S. in journalism. She previously worked at Barnes & Noble Bookstore.

Carol Cheney, president of Cheney & Co. in New Haven, has been elected to the executive committee of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce. She is the recipient of the Chamber's 1995 Volunteer of the year Award for her work on the “Vision for a Greater New Haven” image and positioning project.

The Regional Growth Partnership has announced the addition of two associate positions to its board of directors: John Emra, executive director of external affairs for SBC-SNET; and Kevin F. Walsh, publisher and chief executive officer of the New Haven Register. In addition, Gerald Weiner has been elected the board's new vice chairman.

Essex Savings Bank has announced the election of three directors and four trustees. Incumbents Leighton Lee III, Gregory R. Shook and David R. Speirs were re-elected to the board of directors and incumbents Peter Bonanno and Jayne Mather along with newcomers Geoffrey L. Jacobsen and Judy Preston were elected as trustees.

Pamela Rosinus, a dietary aide at Milford Hospital, is among ten people statewide to be chosen as winners in the Connecticut Hospital Association's inaugural “Healthcare Heros” contest. Health-care workers were asked to express why they chose health care as a career and/or why they believe they made the right choice.

Stratford VNA has announced the promotions of: Bonnie Dzurenda, to director of clinical services; Angela Leonzi, to director of quality improvement; Diane Michaels, to intake coordinator; Jennifer Fordham, new supervisor of clinical services; and Valerie Grogan, primary care nurse.

Charles J. Lockwood, M.D., has been appointed chief and chair of obstetrics and gynecology at Yale-New Haven Hospital and the Yale School of Medicine. Before joining YNHH, Lockwood was the Stanley H. Kaplan professor and chair, department of obstetrics and gynecology, at the New York University School of Medicine. He received his undergraduate degree from Brown University and was graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, completing his residency training at Pennsylvania Hospital.

The Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants has appointed Edward J. Maloney of Branford to serve as chair of its financial institutions committee. The committee acts as a liaison between members of the society and credit granting/financing organizations. Maloney, CFO of Prime Bank in Orange, holds a BBA from St. Bonaventure University.

Quinnipiac University announced that three of its professors have been elected to the board of directors of the Connecticut Foundation for Open Government: Paul Janensch, associate professor of communications; Martin Margulies, law professor; and Michael Collins, adjunct professor of communications and general manager of WQUN (1220 AM) radio. Collins has also been re-elected president and chairman of the group. Connecticut citizens concerned with promoting open government and freedom of information founded the non-profit corporation in 1991.

The West Haven Chamber of Commerce has named new officers and committee chairs. Amy Rosen, director of sales at Best Western Hotels, was elected president. She is a graduate of Quinnipiac University. Others elected include: Rilla Dath, vice president of Fleet Bank and branch manager of their West Haven office, first vice president; Bob Rosenberg, president of Insurance Problem Solvers, vice president/secretary; MaryAnn Cordone, chief financial officer of the Greater West Haven Credit Union, vice president; and Richard Pavano, partner in Smith Pavano, treasurer. Elected to serve as committee chairmen were: Glen Gitteman, Kathi Dest and Michael Mercuriano.

Robert Jurasin of Wilbur Smith Associates in New Haven will receive the 2002 Community Service Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Connecticut. Jurasin serves on the Mayor's Town Green Committee's Parking Subcommittee, is a member of the board of directors and executive committee of Rideworks and the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce.
