WINDSOR LOCKS - The Boeing Company's recent contract with the U.S. Air Force for 60 additional C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft bodes well for Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX). The company will supply aircraft systems valued at approximately $90 million.
Hamilton Sundstrand products on the C-17 include the electric power system, ram air turbine emergency power system, electronic engine controls, fuel metering unit and aircraft/propulsion data management computers. The engine lube and scavenge pumps and main fuel pumps are also produced by the company, as are the OBIGGS (On Board Inert Gas Generating System) compressors.
The C-17s supports both combat and humanitarian missions. It most recently was used to ferry troops and supplies into Afghanistan.
