WALLINGFORD - A FedEx ground distribution center will soon be up and running at 29 Toelles Road. Last month Fredrick C. Ulbrich Jr. of Ulbrich Stainless Steels & Special Metals sold a 20-acre parcel to Carmel, Ind.-based developer Scannell Properties, which will build a $1.9 million facility for FedEx.
Ulbrich told the Meriden Record-Journal that he felt the property should be sold as a unit and that it should be sold to an entity that would provide employment and taxes for the town of Wallingford.
The 79,000-square-foot center will replace the one at 285 State Street in North Haven that FedEx has outgrown. The North Haven site employs about 140 workers. The new location, projected to open next August, is expected to create an unspecified number of new jobs.
