AVON - Alan Mintz, co-founder of the advertising firm Mintz & Hoke, died September 9 in Bennington, Vt. The New Haven native, who in 1971 founded the firm with partner Joe Hoke, had battled cancer in recent years. Mintz retired as chairman of the agency in 1989.
