The Hospital of Saint Raphael's Isaac Goodrich, M.D., has been named president of the Connecticut State Medical Society. An attending neurosurgeon, he assumed the one-year term for the New Haven-based society, which has a membership of more than 7,000 physicians. Goodrich, who has been a member of Saint Raphael's medical staff since 1971, practices at Connecticut Neurosurgery, P.SC. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. Goodrich is currently president of the Connecticut Neurosurgical Society.

The directors of the Fair Haven Community Health Center have appointed Laurie Bridger, M.D. as medical director. Bridger has been with FHCHC since 1991 as an internist and most recently chaired its department of internal medicine. Bridger was graduated from the Albert Einstein School of Medicine and completed her residency training at Boston City College.

Robert John Klancko of Woodbridge has been elected to membership in the Connecticut Academy of Arts & Sciences. Klancko is managing partner of the consulting firm Klancko & Klancko. A 1967 graduate of the University of Connecticut, he was honored with UConn's Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award and the Materials Societies of Connecticut honored him with their Distinguished Materials Engineer of the Year award.

Walter J. Nester of North Haven has joined the staff of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce as a business development executive. Nester served as director of development and community relations for Family Counseling of Greater New Haven. Nester will be responsible for the chamber's membership sales and business development in North Haven, Wallingford, Madison, Guilford, Branford, East Haven, Cheshire, North Branford and parts of New Haven. Nester previously was executive vice president and general manager of the New Haven Register.

Henry Forte has joined Century 21 Greengarden Realty, concentrating primarily on residential real estate as well as relocation and relocation services. A Bridgeport native, Forte holds a B.S. from the University of Bridgeport and an MBA in accounting and finance from Mercer University.

Thomas A. Gugliotti, principal in the law firm of Updike, Kelly & Spellacy, P.C., has been elected chairman of the Commercial Law & Bankruptcy Section of the Connecticut Bar Association. Gugliotti is chairman of the law firm's Creditors' Rights and Bankruptcy practice group.

ArchivesOne, a company specializing in records management and storage services, has promoted CFO John Pavlovich to chief operating officer. Pavlovich, who joined ArchivesOne in January 2000, holds both CPA and CFA designations. He is a graduate of Hamilton College and has a master's degree in accounting from the University of Hartford.

John Olival, administrative assistant for Derby Mayor Marc Garofalo, has announced that he is resigning to become manager of the operations division of Yale-New Haven Hospital. Olival, who has been in the mayor's office for two years, previously served as an operations manager at Warnaco and also worked for Federal Express and Kraft Foods.

Ernest Gardow has been elected president of the Connecticut Society of Professional Engineers. Gardow is a former professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Hartford.

Margot Manacchio, R.N. of Meriden has been named administrative director of Saint Raphael's Cardiac Institute. She will be responsible for coordinating the development and operations of the cardiac institute, which includes all of Saint Raphael's medical and surgical cardiac services. Manacchio began her career at Saint Raphael's in 1986, most recently serving as patient care manager of the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit and patient care manager for the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. She earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Syracuse University and is a candidate for a master's degree in nursing from Southern Connecticut State University.

Dennis J. Magid, president and chief executive officer of the Jewish Home for the Elderly of Fairfield County, the state's second-largest skilled nursing facility, has announced his retirement. Magid, who has served as president of the facility for 30 years, began his career at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center for the Aged in Boston. To ease the transition, Magid has committed to work part-time through December 2002. He has served as president of the Connecticut Alliance for Long-Term Care, the Association for Jewish Aging Services and was former treasurer and executive board member of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. He created the Fairfield County Long-Term Care Alliance in 1996 and served as its first and only president.

Daniel C. Esty, professor of environmental law and policy at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies and clinical professor of law at the Yale Law School, is the recipient of the 2002 American Bar Association Award for Distinguished Achievement in Environmental Law and Policy. The award recognizes individuals, organizations or programs that have distinguished themselves in environmental law and policy. A graduate of Harvard College, Oxford University and Yale Law School, Esty is the author of numerous books and articles on environmental law, environmental policy, environment and trade, development, global governance and security.

Alfred N. Kovalik, P.E., LEP, has been named president-elect of the Connecticut Society of Professional Engineers. He is an associate with Leggette, Brashears & Graham in Trumbull. A licensed professional engineer in six states and a licensed environmental professional in Connecticut, Kovalik earned his M.S. degree in environmental engineering from the University of New Haven and a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Connecticut.

Vollmer Associates of Hamden has named Jess McMinn director of survey for its Connecticut office. A licensed surveyor with 33 years' experience, McMinn previously served as president of McMinn Associates, a civil engineering and land surveying company he founded in 1992. Prior to starting his own firm, McMinn served as director of the survey department for the town of Waterford and was building inspector and a zoning official for the town of Colchester.

The law firm of Fazzone Baillie Ryan and Seadale LLC of Cheshire has announced the addition of two new associate: Phillip L. Ricciuti and Matthew S. Hall. Ricciuti was graduated from George Washington University in 1991 with a B.A. in American literature and a minor in American history. He attended Quinnipiac University Law School, earning his J.D. in 2000. Matthew S. Hall graduated from Bates College in 1988 with a B.A. in American history. He attended Boston College Law School, graduating in 1993.

Labor and employment specialist Mark Soycher has returned to the Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) as counsel for its Human Resources Services Department. He served as counsel to CBIA from 1983 to 1990 and has been in private law practice for the past 12 years. Soycher holds a bachelor's in psychology from Rutgers University, a master's in special education from William Paterson College and a law degree from New York Law School.
