NEW HAVEN - DSL.net Inc. (NASDAQ: DSLN), a nationwide provider of broadband communications services to businesses, and Rhode Island-based QC2, regional provider of contract installation services for the telecom industry, have launched a wireless Internet trial based on the popular 802.11b platform.
The trial is at the Brewed Awakenings coffee shop in the Capital Center area of Providence, R.I. Service at this hot spot will be free for the first 30 days. Users will need a laptop computer or PDA that is equipped with an 802.11b card (a limited number of wireless cards will be available). The 802.11b technology, also known as WiFi, has quickly become a networking standard allowing users with computers and personal data assistants (PDAs) enabled with a wireless networking card to get Internet access at broadband speeds.
DSL.net is able to support hot spots around the country for this cutting-edge technology because of our broadband infrastructure, said Keith Markley, DSL.net's president and CEO. QC2 has a good track record of building networks and has demonstrated a solid understanding of the potential and functionality 802.11b.
After the 30-day free trial, users can choose from three QC2 connectivity plans: $30 per month for unlimited use, $6 per day for unlimited connectivity or a rate of $3 per hour.
