ROCKY HILL - Ames Department Stores Inc. will undergo a third round of store closings when it shutters 54 more stores nationwide beginning on December 30. The closings, expected to be completed in February or March, will leave Ames with 333 stores nationwide - more than 100 fewer than at the company's peak. None of the stores that are closing are in Connecticut. Ames currently has stores in East Haven, Seymour, Meriden, Naugatuck and Old Saybrook. Ames officials say they hope to emerge from bankruptcy by the second quarter of 2002.
